Drainage Works Start

DrainageWorksPipe290917a.jpgIn recent years unusually high levels of rainfall has resulted in areas of the course becoming unplayable and certain holes, particularly the 11th and 12th, have been by-passed until they have recovered.

A detailed and comprehensive drainage scheme has been designed by external consultants. Unfortunately the scheme cannot be fully funded at the present time but sufficient funds have been set aside to deal with the most urgent areas.

There have been ongoing problems in the vicinity of the 11th green and more recently the 12th fairway. Problems also occur with the overflow of the ditch to the rear of the 18th green which affects the areas around the nearby green.

All three areas can be improved with a new drain running from the ditch behind the 18th across the fairways of the 18th, 12th and 11th and then directly into the pond on the 10th hole. Additional ancillary drains will be installed in all three fairways and around the 11th green which will drain these areas directly into the main drain.

The work commenced on Monday 25th September and is planned to be completed in 5 weeks. During this period holes 11, 12 and 18 will be out of play (as required).

Plans and details of the scheme will be posted on the noticeboard in the main corridor of the club house and the scheme will be directly managed by Mark Wilshire our Head Green Keeper.

We all look forward to the completion of the work ahead of the winter months and the full 18 holes back in play as soon as possible.
